Ling Zhan, DDS, PhD

Dr. Ling Zhan is a pediatric dentist who cares for children and adolescents, taking a strong focus on disease prevention. She works closely with her patients and their families to identify risk factors for common dental problems, such as tooth decay, and to help them adopt scientifically based preventive and therapeutic regimens to promote future oral health. Her practice provides routine as well as complex care, including care for children who require sedation or general anesthesia to treat dental or other medical conditions. She works closely with other dental specialists to treat children with complex dental disorders, such as amelogenesis imperfecta.

Zhan conducts research on microbiological aspects of tooth decay, oral prevention programs guided by risk assessment, and identification of protocols to prevent or eliminate tooth decay in children. She works on both clinical research projects (evaluating diagnostic methods, treatments or preventive techniques) and translational research projects (turning study findings into better ways to care for patients).

Zhan earned her doctor of dental surgery degree and a doctorate in oral biology from West China Hospital of Sichuan University's College of Stomatology. She completed her residency in pediatric dentistry at UCSF. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
