Trauma-Informed Pediatric Care: How to Be Your Patient’s Ally

Caroline Cortezia, MS, CCLS, UCSF’s supervisor of child life services, describes how a trauma history informs behavior and impacts physical, mental, emotional and social health. She explains how the pandemic has increased toxic stress in the pediatric population, especially in kids with behavioral disorders, and describes simple steps providers can take to relieve anxiety and avoid re-traumatization in these patients.
